ORCHESTRA PLAYERS IN GHANA ADVISED TO JOIN MUSIGA FOR SUPPORT

Orchestra players in Ghana have been called upon to join the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in order to benefit from the support of the Union. This call was made by Joel Senyo Asigbetsey, the Director of Orchestra Musicians for the Union.

Joel Asigbetsey who is also a talent manager advised orchestra players to take advantage of the Union’s membership drive to register. He noted that benefits available to orchestra players include access to training, discounts on rehearsals at the Union rehearsal studios and networking among others.

According to Mr Asigbetsey, Orchestra musicians who are members of the Union stand to benefit from the training programmes the Union runs. He noted that one such opportunity is in discounts for the Certificate Course in Music Production at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) for which Union members receive a discount for their fees.

The Director of Orchestra Musicians noted that the outreach to orchestra musicians is part of the Union’s efforts to rope in other musicians apart from the secular and gospel musicians who usually join the Union.

Meanwhile a delegation including members of the Accra Symphony Orchestra will participate in the 4th International Federation of Musicians (FIM) Orchestra Conference in Montreal, Quebec from May 12 – 14 at the Delta Hotel. The Conference will involve 300 delegates from over 40 countries and will feature panel discussions and performances. The delegation to be led by Korkor Amarteifio will include Phyllis Akuffo, Joel Senyo Asigbetsey, Kojo Sam, Elizabeth Naa Ashami Lartey and Cletus Nwabueze Uchechukwu. Others are Babx Karim Mohammed, Benedictus Acolatse and Amos Tetteh.
