The life of an innocent soldier, captain now major Maxwell Mahama was snatched through an act which has been spoken against in the past not to be the right medium to hand out justice – lynching leaving behind his wife and kids.
He was murdered for rendering protective duties to the town of Denkyira-Obuasi against galamsey activities and the people who took his life claiming they thought he was an armed robber might have seen him before in uniform.
His death has since sparked national debate on instant justice and the role the laws play in societies calling for the strengthening of the laws to protect citizens more.
Arrest of some of the his killers have been made so far and the town has become a ghost with inhabitants calling for forgiveness from the family and the entire country.
Major Maxwell was laid to a peaceful rest on Friday after all burial rites were performed at the state house in Accra. His wife said she just want to see the faces and of the killers of her husband, she is struggling to come to terms that human beings can be so wicked to the extent of looking another person in the face and inflict pains through stoning to death.
The nation has lost one great and honorable son in the hands of the same people he vowed to protect from trouble. We are in tears.
